Life as an exchange student in Virginia
One of the first things EF students notice about the South is the friendliness and hospitality of its residents, and Virginia is no exception. Most people will welcome you with a big “hi y’all!” Virginians live in close communities and you might find them to be conservative. However, they have a great respect for the history and traditions of their state, and they truly appreciate the beautiful landscape. From most locations throughout the state, the beaches and mountains are just a few hours drive. Virginia is also home to one of the best amusement parks in the United States, Busch Gardens.
The state is in proximity to Washington D.C., the capital of the United States. A visit to Washington D.C. will enlighten you as to the history and politics of America, and you may even see some famous statesmen and women! Virginia boasts some of the best universities in the States, such as James Madison and the University of Virginia. Young people here spend most of their time participating in school activities such as sports and club events, and former students recommend this as an excellent way to make friends. Teenagers also enjoy shopping, watching movies, eating out and attending church youth organizations, which are fun social events. Virginia’s history, culture, landscape and climate make it one of the best places to spend an exchange year!
